Leftist parties expressed their dismay on Monday night at the results of the Likud’s primaries . The party’s members chose to place the more nationalistic candidates at the top of the list, pushing out the candidates that were considered to be more moderate. Labor party chairwoman Shelly Yechimovich called on socially-oriented Likud voters to vote for her party because there was no one in the Likud left to represent them, she claimed. "The Likud’s list is desperate and hopeless, devoid of social representation," said Yechimovich. "The list that was chosen turns the Likud into an extreme right-wing party, and any connection between it and the national party it once was is purely coincidental.” Yair Lapid’s party, Yesh Atid (Future), said that "the Likud presented tonight an alarming list which revolves around the axis of the deals of old politics and extremist ideology. This is no longer Menachem Begin's Likud and the national camp. Those who vote for Likud Beytenu will receive instead a branch of the National Union.” Meretz chairwoman Zehava Galon said that the Likud party had turned back on its heritage. “The liberal Likud has died," she said. "Even Menachem Begin would not find his place in this dubious team. It is scary to think what will happen here if the power remains in the hands of the Likud. It seems a bit redundant now to add Lieberman to this list which is so nationalistic.” The results of the Likud’s primaries were a victory for the nationalistic voices of the Likud. People such as MK Danny Danon, Minister Moshe Yaalon, MK Ze’ev Elkin, MK Tzipi Hotovely, MK Yariv Levin and Minister Yuli Edelstein all ranked high on the party’s list. Moshe Feiglin, head of the Jewish Leadership faction in the Likud, was placed in the 14 th spot on the list, meaning it is highly likely he will be an MK in the next Knesset.
